Car Park Shade Buying Guide: What to Look For in 2026

Evaluating a Car Park Shade Proposal

Buying a car park shade structure is a long-term investment. A well-engineered structure protects vehicles and enhances property value, while a cheap, poorly designed canopy can collapse in high winds or sag in heavy rains. Here are the core factors to evaluate in any vendor proposal.

1. Wind Load Calculations

Make sure the design is calculated for local wind loads according to Indian Standards (IS:875). For regions like Delhi NCR and UP, the structure should withstand wind speeds of up to 150-180 km/h. Ask your vendor for a structural analysis report (SAP2000/STAAD.Pro) before placing the order.

2. Fabric Options: PVC vs. HDPE

Ensure you select the right membrane:

  • HDPE Shade Net: Breathable, allows hot air to escape, reduces temperatures under the shade significantly. Best for dry, hot regions where rain protection isn't the primary concern.
  • PVC Waterproof Membrane: 100% waterproof, prevents rain, dust, and UV. Needs a smooth curvature slope to drain rainwater and avoid pooling.

3. Foundation Depth

A cantilever shade structure exerts high overturning moments on its foundations. Concrete footings must be designed based on soil testing and bearing capacity. A shallow foundation is the most common point of failure in stormy weather.
